Rockies drop opener

The Colorado Rockies dropped their home opener today against the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-6. Starters Aaron Cook and Brandon Webb weren't particularly sharp today giving up 5 earned runs apiece in 5 innings for Webb, and 6 innings for Cook. The same old story came to the forefront again for the Rockies as the bullpen failed to keep a 6-5 lead in the 8th inning. Latroy Hawkins just being Latroy Hawkins gave up 3 runs in 2/3 of an inning in the 8th to doom the Rockies. Last year it was Jose Mesa and Ray King who killed us, and this year it looks like it'll be Latroy Hawkins who is going to kill us. Great! The offensive juggernauts today were Eric Byrnes from the Diamondbacks who was a solid 3 for 5 with 2 r.b.i's, and for the Rockies it was Brad Hawpe who also went 3 for 5 with 2 r.b.i's. Youngsters Troy Tulowitzki and Chris Iannetta also played well for the Rockies but as usual the bullpen blew it. Such is the life of a Rockies fan I guess. Back at it tomorow at 6:30 mountain time with Jeff Francis facing Livan Hernandez.
